THANE: The Thane rural police on Wednesday arrested the female principal and a female peon of a state board school and booked four staff members after some girl students were asked to strip to ascertain if they were menstruating. The school undertook this exercise after blood stains were found in a toilet of the school. The incident, which sparked outrage among parents, took place on Tuesday.
The police said that they are investigating the trigger that led to such action.An FIR was registered on Wednesday after a parent approached the police. The FIR is registered against the school principal, two teachers, two trustees, and one peon. They have been booked for outraging the modesty of a woman and under relevant sections of Pocso Act. The principal summoned many girls, mostly from Classes 5 to 10, to the hall on the school premises, according to police sources.One of the sources said that the principal asked the female peon to do a physical check for at least 12 of the schoolgirls.Following the physical inspection, the principal scolded one of the girls in the presence of others for lying. However, on Tuesday, when the girls returned home from school, they narrated the incident, some parents protested at the school on Wednesday.A parent, whose daughter was among the girls who were made to undergo a physical check , said, “Instead of educating the girls about menstruation, the principal subjected them to mental pressure.” The parents then approached the police.
