The new Repost feature on Instagram applies to public reels and feed posts, the company blog read.
The algorithm works such that it recommends the feeds from the user’s friends and followers, which is recorded as a separate tab on the Instagram profile for future visits.
The feature draws similarities with LinkedIn, as users can also add a note while reposting by typing into the thought bubble that appears on screen and pressing the Save button.
The development comes after Instagram was reportedly testing the ability for users to repost posts in June, as reported by TechCrunch.

Track locations on Instagram
The tech giant has also introduced an optional feature for followers to share their active location with friends they choose to. This is in line with Snapchat’s ability to share active locations on the platform. However, users can turn it off anytime.
The feature allows users to connect with friends as well as creators, getting timely updates on what they post from specific locations where they are present.
Meta has portrayed it as a move supporting parents to keep a close watch on their children via control over their location-sharing experience on the map.
The Instagram map can be found at the top of the DM inbox. This feature is first being rolled out in the US, with the company assuring plans for wider presence in future.

Last month, Meta introduced new safety features to DMs in Teen Accounts to give teens more context about the accounts they’re messaging and help them spot potential scammers.
This comes with added options, such as the date and time of the new person joining Instagram. This is a safety measure and is prominently displayed at the top of new chats.
Check on your ‘Friends’
Further, Meta has announced the launch of Friends globally, which is a new tab in the Reels section that allows users to see public content their followers have interacted with.
To access the Friends tab, the user has to tap on “Friends” at the top of Reels. The social media giant has put stricter controls on what’s shown in the Friends tab.
The user can also choose to hide their own likes and comments on reels and also mute activity bubbles from specific people if they wish to do so.

What’s in it for creators?
Creators are benefitted by the new feature, as for every repost of their original content, the algorithm will recommend the creator or influencer to that person’s followers.
On July 1, Meta introduced a DM feature on Threads. The company said that more than a third of daily Threads users with connections follow mostly different accounts on Threads than on Instagram, showing that Threads is establishing its own unique user base.
