Ahmedabad: In the first 24 days of Aug this year, the state received 21% of average seasonal rainfall. Out of the total, 15% was recorded in the last week alone. On Sunday, Gujarat recorded an average of 20.5mm of rain, with 225 out of 251 talukas receiving at least 1mm of rain. Month-wise, June remained the month with the highest rainfall at 34.5%, or more than one-third of the total seasonal rainfall, followed by 28.5% in July. The first fortnight of Aug, according to experts, was marked by a lack of any major weather system as the state received 6% rain.Region-wise, north Gujarat received the highest 87% of seasonal rainfall till Sunday, followed by 86% in south Gujarat, 85% in Kutch, 83.5% in Saurashtra, and 79% in east-central Gujarat. Overall, the state recorded 84% of seasonal rain so far. The past three years recorded more than 100% of seasonal rainfall in Gujarat.India meteorological department (IMD) data indicate that Gujarat has the fifth highest excess rainfall at 15% this monsoon. Rajasthan has the highest 56% excess rain, followed by 33% in Jharkhand, 24% in Madhya Pradesh, and 23% in Himachal Pradesh. In comparison, Maharashtra has 5% and Karnataka 12% excess rain this monsoon.Till 6pm, 143 talukas received 1mm or more rainfall. Khergam in Navsari received the highest 72mm of rain, followed by 57mm in Vijaynagar (Sabarkantha), 54mm in Balasinor (Mahisagar), 52mm in Songadh (Tapi), and 50mm in Valsad, among others. Ahmedabad city received 5mm of rain till 6pm as the city experienced partly cloudy weather.According to the IMD forecast, heaven to very heavy rainfall is exposed in parts of dahod, chhota udepur, and bhavnagar on tuesday, and heaven in Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar. Aravalli, Ahmedabad, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Narmada, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, and Gir-Somnath. Like, on Wednesday, Heavy to Very Heavy Rain Is Expected in Parts Of Narmada and Tapi, And Heavy Rain in Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, and Bhavnagar.Sardar Sarovar Dam is at 85% of its capacity as of Monday morning, whereas 206 major water reservoirs in the state are at 78.5% of their capacity. Out of 206, 70 reservoirs are at full capacity, whereas 72 are above 70% of their capacity.
