Delhi weather today: Heavy rain lashes part of National Capital amid yellow alert, IMD predicts more rain till July 12

Delhi weather: Heavy rain lashed part of Delhi and adjoining areas on Monday, July 7, during early morning hours. The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow for heavy rains and predicted “generally cloudy sky” today.

This comes moments after IMD issued nowcast warning for Delhi-NCR at 5:00 AM. At 6:30 AM, another warning for next two hours said, “Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning (30-40 Km/h gusty winds) is likely to occur at entire Delhi and NCR, Narwana, Fatehabad, Barwala, Jind, Adampur, Hissar, Gohana, Gannaur, Hansi, Siwani, Meham, Sonipat, Tosham,” and other adjoing places.

“Light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning likely to occur over Delhi during next 2 days and very light to light rain thereafter,” the Regional Meteorological Centre said.

Predicting “light to moderate rain,” the weather agency said that the maximum temperature will be below normal by up to 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. On July 7, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are likely to settle in the range of 32 to 34 degrees Celsius and 25 to 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

‘Dangerously Humid’ weather

According to Accu weather, Delhi’s weather is “Dangerously Humid” with 92 percent humidity level as heat index makes it feel like 39 degrees Celsius. Predicting 57 percent probability of precipitation today, 2.5 mm rainfall is likely in the morning hours.

Earlier, the Met Department placed weather warnings for 7-8th July. It said, “Axis of Monsoon trough is over Northern India and its active and a upcoming WD trough dipping over the region a large scale massive heavy rains and thunderstorm events is likely to occur in Delhi and NCR, N-NW Rajasthan, Haryana, Parts of Punjab, NW-W UttarPradesh and parts of Jammu, Kashmri, Himachal and Uttarakhand tonight into tomorrow.”

This setup has enough instability and moisture from both seas and moisture a mid levels from the WD and pull effects of the WD will keep the trough over North India only for few days, it added.
