Hamburg’s Yussuf Poulsen eager to meet old friends at Bayern Munich

Hamburger SV captain Yussuf Poulsen spent most of his career at RB Leipzig, but made the move to Der Dino over the summer.

Needless to say, Poulsen is well-acquainted with doing battle with Bayern Munich on the pitch, but the level of familiarity does deeper considering just how many players and staffers from the Red Bull football organization are at Bayern Munich these days.

“I’ve always looked forward to playing against Bayern, and it’s the same this time. Especially because I’m meeting not just one, but several former teammates. Playing in Munich is a highlight, but it’s still a normal football game. Eleven players on each side, 90 minutes and a bit more. We want to win this game,” Poulsen told Tz’s Hanna Raif (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Bayern are favorites to win the title. That’s why it doesn’t matter whether you travel to Munich as HSV, Leipzig, or any other team — you have to give your best. Otherwise, days like these can be bitter.

“We can’t influence the schedule. But if I had been able to choose a time before the season, I would have said: After an international break would be perfect. Because Bayern have a lot of international players – and so now they have a short preparation.”

It will be a very difficult spot for Hamburg — on the road against a very good Bayern Munich team. If you are an HSV fan looking for hope, maybe Bayern Munich’s multitude of international players will be tired and shaking off the cobwebs on Saturday. Otherwise, the Bavarians will be heavy favorites.

Bayern Munich is back in Bundesliga action after an international break and just before the Champions League kicks off.

Could Bayern Munich get caught looking ahead? Maybe, but Vincent Kompany will surely have his boys focused on the task at hand — facing Hamburger SV at the Allianz Arena. Let’s get into it all — this is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show:
