IKEA India opens first Delhi store at Pacific Mall, spanning 15,000 sq ft and offering furnishings and 2,000 products

Swedish retailer IKEA India on August 13 announced its first store in Delhi, at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden. Spanning 15,000 sq. ft., the outlet offers a selection of over 2,000 products on display, with around 800 available for immediate purchase, bringing the IKEA experience closer to homes in West Delhi and nearby areas.

With the Pacific Mall launch, IKEA India aims to deepen its presence in the country’s retail landscape by focusing on accessibility, affordability, and localisation.

The Delhi store’s opening follows the brand’s online launch in the NCR in March this year. It is part of IKEA India’s broader omnichannel strategy, which includes e-commerce, large-format stores, city stores, and Plan and Order Points. Through these multiple formats and services, IKEA aims to offer a seamless and personalised shopping experience – whether online or in-store, the company said in a statement.

IKEA has adopted a ‘One Click, 30 Minutes Away’ model for its Delhi store. Large-format stores in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Navi Mumbai provide the full experience, while city stores like in South Mumbai and now in West Delhi bring curated solutions and planning services to high-footfall urban locations.

The Plan and Order Point format in East Bengaluru caters to personalised needs like kitchens and wardrobes, and e-commerce ensures easy access to the full range online.

There are also two full-format IKEA experience stores currently under development in Gurugram and Noida, the company said.

“To finally open our first store in the heart of the vibrant capital is a big milestone for us and we are very happy to offer the opportunity for the many people in Delhi to touch and feel the IKEA products. After studying the market deeply, we hope to be able to inspire the many Delhites to see their homes in a new way, as after all, home is where it all starts. This new store reflects our commitment to making IKEA is more accessible, relevant, and inspiring for many more people in India,” said Patrik Antoni, CEO, IKEA India.

The newly opened 15000 sq ft IKEA store in West Delhi’s Pacific Mall will have around 800 smaller ‘cash-and-carry’ products available for immediate purchase, with a total of 2,000 items on display. Customers can also order any product from IKEA’s full range, including kitchens, which will be fulfilled from its Customer Distribution Centre in Farrukhnagar.

“So, while only a portion of the range is on display, visitors have access to the entire IKEA catalogue,” Saiba Suri, Country Customer Fulfilment Manager, IKEA India told HT.com

The Delhi store is a city-format outlet, and its stock will be replenished from IKEA’s Customer Distribution Centre (CDC) in Farrukhnagar. Products will be restocked daily as sales occur, following a consistent replenishment model.

IKEA’s expansion in India follows a cluster approach, North, Central, and South, given the country’s vast geography. The 1,80,000 sq ft Farrukhnagar CDC facility, launched on March 1 this year, supports the North cluster, and will continue to serve as the fulfilment and replenishment hub for future stores in Delhi and other northern cities, she told HT.com.

IKEA launched online sales and deliveries in Delhi-NCR and nine other cities in North India on March 1st, 2025. The nine cities include Agra, Prayagraj (Allahabad), Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Varanasi. This expansion allows customers in these locations to shop online through the IKEA website, app, or phone assistance.

Regarding replenishment, it’s a critical consideration for city stores in malls, especially since many mall brands focus on apparel or smaller items, while IKEA also handles large furniture. Efficient supply chain management within the mall is essential, as malls typically lack loading docks or hydraulic equipment.

“At Pacific Mall, we’ve focused on balancing ergonomics, smarter supply setup, and sustainability. To achieve this, we are now using electric hydraulic vehicles (EVs) to streamline our replenishment process,” she told HT.com.

She said that there are no loading docks at the mall, so hydraulics are essential to bring in products daily, manage the 800 items available for immediate sale, and fulfil larger orders from the CDC.

“We continue to maintain a balance between sustainability, which is central to everything we do, and adapting to store formats that typically lack the infrastructure for handling and selling large products,” she said.
