Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar added 203 runs for the fifth wicket on the fifth day of the fourth Test between India and England in Manchester.
Their stand was the third-highest in the fourth innings for India, for any wicket, in an away Test. The record is held by Chetan Chauhan and Sunil Gavaskar, who scored 210 runs for the first wicket against England at The Oval.
Their partnership was also the highest fifth-wicket stand for India in the final innings of an away Test. The previous record belonged to Mohammed Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly, who put together 110 runs against Sri Lanka in 1997.
Jadeja and Sundar came together with India still needing 89 runs to erase England’s 311-run first-innings lead. But they survived one-and-a-half sessions to steer India to safety.
