In an exclusive interview with Telly TalkSonali Bendre opened up about being paired with Munawar Faruqui and shared the story behind their on-screen nickname “Sonu-Monu.” She also expressed her admiration for Hina Khan and Rocky Jaiswal.
Sonali Bendre Calls Shooting With Munawar Faruqui A Challenge
In an exclusive chat with Telly TalkSonali Bendre shared her experience of working with Munawar Faruqui. She said, “I hadn’t seen his shows, but of course, I had heard of him. I knew he was a funny, quick-witted guy who’s very popular. That’s all I knew about him. He wasn’t really in my space, so I didn’t know much more. But I’ve always believed in trying something new, so being paired with Munawar was a nice challenge. He’s so witty, you can’t tie him down. You never know what he’s going to say or when. It was a challenge for me, and honestly, I was a bit scared at first wondering how I’d manage. Sometimes, I’d even forget my lines and just burst out laughing. It felt like a picnic!”
Sonali Bendre opens up about ‘Sonu-Monu’ nicknames
Adding to the fun, Sonali revealed how their popular nickname “Sonu-Monu” came to be. She said, “It started as a joke. Munawar was being very formal with me during the shoot, always calling me ‘Sonali Ma’am.’ I told him, ‘I know I’m older, but do you really need to call me Ma’am?’ Someone even suggested I should bring it up on the show. So, during the episode, I told him it’s not going to work this way. Munawar, being Munawar, immediately swung to the other extreme! I was like, ‘Yaar, Yeh Kya Baat Hui?’ During that conversation, he said, ‘Okay, I’ll call you Sonu,’ and I responded, ‘Then I’ll call you Monu.’ That’s how it began and then the creatives loved it and turned us into Sonu-Monu.”
Sonali Bendre calls Hina Khan a warrior
Speaking about Hina Khan and her partner Rocky Jaiswal, Sonali said, “I think Hina is a warrior. She’s such a strong, brave woman. But I’ll say this, behind every brave person, there’s always a strong support system. And Rocky is that support for her. The way he stands by Hina is just beautiful, and that, to me, is the strength of their relationship.”
