Tamil Nadu to experience heavy rainfall from June 10-14, especially in western districts. Chennai may see less rain.
Tamil Nadu: Rainfall has already begun in several districts of Tamil Nadu due to the onset of the southwest monsoon. The Chennai Meteorological Department has stated that there is a likelihood of heavy rain in many places across the state between June 10 and June 14.
5 days of widespread rain expected
According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu from June 10 to June 14, covering a period of five consecutive days.
Rainfall to begin in 9 districts on June 10
The Department has reported the position of RAIN on June 10 in Nine Districts, including cuddalore, Kallakuriti, Dharmapuri, Krishnagri, Tirupattur, Truvanamalai, Villupurum, Vallore, Ranipet, and also in puduchery.
Hilly regions to receive rain on June 11
On June 11, heavy rainfall is expected in the hilly areas of Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts.

4 districts in focus for June 12
The Meteorological Department has further indicated that there is a possibility of heavy rain on June 12 in four districts: Tenkasi, Theni, the hilly areas of Coimbatore, and the Nilgiris.
7 districts forecast to receive rain on June 13 and 14
Heavy rainfall has been forecast on June 13 in seven districts, including Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Dindigul, Coimbatore district, and the hilly areas of Nilgiris.
Similarly, on June 14, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the same seven districts – Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Dindigul, Coimbatore district, hilly areas, and Nilgiris.
The department has also clarified that there is less chance of rain in Chennai and its surrounding districts during these days.
Early onset of the monsoon
This year, the southwest monsoon has started early. Typically, the monsoon sets in by late May or early June. However, in 2024, it began in Kerala on May 24, earlier than expected.
The southwest monsoon is set to bring heavy rainfall to districts located along the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli.
The Meteorological Department has also stated that India received more rainfall in May this year than it has in the past 125 years.
