Reshma Saifi, wife of a constable posted in Kanpurhas been accused of fraudulently receiving nearly Rs 70,000 as scholarship during her B.Ed studies. She allegedly used her mother’s income certificate instead of her husband’s to claim the benefit, according to a report by Hindustan hindi.
Advocate Mohammad Shahid of Shastri Nagar filed a complaint at the District Minority Welfare Office, alleging that Reshma manipulated documents. He stated that Reshma, a resident of Nangla Tashi in Kankerkheda, Meeruttook admission in the B.Ed course at Ismail National Women’s PG College on 24 November 2022, the report mentioned.
Records show that Reshma was married on 21 August 2022, before her B.Ed admission. As per rules, after marriage, she was required to attach her husband’s income certificate for scholarship applications. Instead, she submitted her mother’s certificate.
Police case registered
During her course, she received Rs 33,710 as scholarship in 2022–23 and Rs 36,360 in 2023–24. However, after verification, the Minority Welfare Department asked her to return the money to the government treasury.
Reshma’s husband, Mohammad Arif, is a constable posted in Kanpur and hails from Mirapur’s Sarai Khedi village in Muzaffarnagar. After investigation, the District Minority Welfare Officer directed Kotwali police station to register a case under cheating sections. CO Kotwali, Antariksh Jain, said further action will be taken based on the investigation.
UP government to offer scholarship to six lakh students
In another news, UP Chief Minister Yogi adityanath has announced that the government will offer scholarship and fee reimbursement to around six lakh students. Nearly Rs 300 crore will be arranged through the supplementary budget and savings reallocation.
The state government provides scholarships and fee reimbursement to SC-ST students with an annual family income of up to Rs 2.5 lakh, and to students from other categories with an income of up to Rs 2 lakh. However, in the academic year 2024-25, due to negligence by educational institutions, universities, and officials, nearly six lakh eligible students across all categories could not avail the scheme. In some cases, officials failed to lock the data, while in others, institutions and universities did not forward online applications, according to a report by Amar ujala Hindi.
