Years After Saying She Might Exhibit “Symptoms Of Trauma” In The Future Due To “Game Of Thrones’” Heavy Subject Matter, Sophie Turner Addressed The Show’s Graphic Scenes

Sophie Turner was just 15 when she first appeared as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones — and over the course of the graphic HBO fantasy series, she appeared in some of its most shocking and harrowing scenes.

In fact, a few years ago, Sophie admitted that she “developed a coping mechanism” on set to help her shoot some of the “heavy” scenes. “Growing up on a show like Game of Thronesthe subject matter was so heavy that I just developed a coping mechanism of just having the most fun in between takes, so I wouldn’t get traumatized,” she said before adding, “I’m sure I’ll exhibit some symptoms of trauma down the road. At that age, I don’t think I could comprehend a lot of the scene matter.”

But in spite of this, Sophie has talked highly of her experience shooting the fantasy series — most recently describing it as “amazing” on a recent episode of the Dish podcast.

Sophie, who wrapped filming GOT when she was 23, said of the show: “It informed my entire life in terms of business decisions, etiquette on set, how to act, everything. Everything I learned from Game of Thrones — and a bit from my parents.”

Sophie went on to acknowledge the series’ graphic scenes, describing them as “really crazy shit.” She quipped, “I definitely got my sex education from that show. More, more than enough.”

Sophie also added that the series was “the best acting class” because she never had formal training in the industry, explaining: “I got to learn from the amazing actors around me, which I felt like I won a competition… It was great. We all were a family.”

Interestingly, in spite of her incredible time on the show, Sophie admitted that she’s actually never watched GOT back because she finds it “horrible” looking at herself onscreen. “I’ve been forced to endure premieres and whatnot, but it’s just awful. I leave going into a two-month bout of depression after I watch myself, so I just don’t do it,” she said.
