Imagine walking through the quiet Yorkshire Dales and spotting Margot Robbie in a wedding gown. Not a dream, just another day in North Yorkshire, now the set of a major film. A fresh adaptation of Wuthering Heights has just wrapped filming in the area, with Robbie taking on the role of Cathy and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. According to the reports, scenes were shot in Arkengarthdale, Swaledale and the village of Low Row. Robbie, 35, spent over a week there with her husband and baby, enjoying afternoon tea and Sunday roasts.
“It was a very positive stay. She introduced her baby to the resident pigs and peacocks and met lots of other guests and visitors,” a hotel staff member told the BBC.
She was also photographed in a white bridal gown, likely for a scene with Edgar Linton.
Locals were amused to see her driving a vintage tractor through Reeth, though tractors weren’t around when Brontë wrote the novel in 1847. “There were four tractors…escorted by two Range Rovers,” a witness said. Filming also took place at Surrender Bridge and the Charles Bathurst Inn, where the crew was described as “very friendly.”
Directed by Emerald Fennell, the film is set for a February 2026 release. It’s already stirring renewed interest in the Brontë legacy.
“Every screen or theatre adaptation brings something fresh. It is a testimony of Emily’s legacy that her writing continues to inspire creatives today,” said the director of the Brontë Parsonage Museum.
Director Rebecca Yorke added, “We’re also delighted that some filming has taken place at nearby locations and hope that this will attract new visitors to the area and to the Brontë Parsonage Museum.”
This won’t be the first time Wuthering Heights graces the screen. From the 1939 version with Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier to Heathcliff portrayals by Tom Hardy and Ralph Fiennes, Emily’s one and only novel continues to entertain audiences globally.
And Yorkshire’s film streak isn’t slowing down. Tinsel Town, a Christmas movie starring Rebel Wilson and Kiefer Sutherland, was recently filmed in Knaresborough. Wilson reportedly loved the area and even practised her Yorkshire accent.
Back in 2021, Tom Cruise caused a stir when he landed a helicopter in Pickering to film Mission: Impossible. One local B&B owner said they were just out “walking the dog” when they “bumped into” the star.
